Physician and former Chief Medical Advisor Anthony Fauci's personal diaries, released by Sen. Rand Paul (R-KY), revealed President Donald Trump's erratic behavior during the COVID-19 pandemic.
According to the Washington Post, the diaries intimately depict the president's unraveling as the pandemic spread across the United States.
"The President came in and the first thing he said as he looked at me was: 'Anthony, you are really a famous guy,'" Fauci wrote about his first meeting with Trump.
Despite being initially cordial when they met on Jan. 29, 2020, Trump's conduct deteriorated, Fauci explained.
By March, Fauci documented Trump's inability to stay focused during critical public health discussions.
On March 27, Fauci wrote, "Very laborious press conference where the POTUS rambled on. He wasted the opportunity to just focus on the relief package and went into his diatribe against previous administrations."
The next day proved worse, as Fauci was forced to seize control of a meeting because Trump kept discussing TV ratings and hydroxychloroquine while "rambling" incoherently, the doctor wrote.
By August, Fauci wrote, "He's desperate and still does not understand the pandemic. Very interesting encounter."
Three days later, he added, "POTUS acting even more erratically. Keeps insisting that increased case numbers are due only to increased testing, ignoring the increases in percent positive, hospitalizations and deaths (>1000/day)."
