Anthony Scaramucci, who served as President Donald Trump’s White House communications director for 11 days in 2017, says this week’s Democratic landslide ended the political futures of the president’s top lieutenants.
“The politics of hate is over,” Scaramucci wrote in an essay on X on Saturday. “It didn’t end with a speech or a scandal. It ended the way these things always end in America: at the ballot box, with ordinary people deciding they’d had enough.”
“I was in that White House for eleven days, which is about ten days longer than it took me to figure out what it was,” he added.
Scaramucci compared the moment to the scene in “Hamilton” where the Reynolds Pamphlet comes out and the ensemble “gleefully sings Alexander Hamilton’s presidential ambitions into the ground.”
“That is the song every Trump loyalist should be hearing right now,” he wrote. “Vance, who defended all of it, Cruz, who called the result a Watergate-level repudiation and then kept his seat at the table, DeSantis, Rubio, Hegseth, the whole cabinet of enablers. The voters just published their pamphlet. The association is permanent. None of them will ever be president now.”
He argued that Trump, “never a Republican,” had “borrowed the party the way he borrowed money from banks: with no intention of returning it in the same condition.”
“Trump took a party with a 170-year identity, Lincoln’s party, Eisenhower’s party, Reagan’s party, and turned it into a personality cult with a merchandise table,” Scaramucci wrote. “A party that stands for one man stands for nothing once the man is gone, and the man is term-limited, 80 years old, and 38 percent in the polls. There is no Trumpism without Trump.”
Scaramucci listed what he called the administration’s failures. They included tariffs built on “a legal theory the Supreme Court struck down,” a war with Iran launched “without asking Congress or preparing the public,” and a string of Cabinet departures. He also wrote that DOGE “fired the people who guard the nuclear stockpile and the power grid, then scrambled to hire them back.”
“None of that is policy; it’s sloppiness, elevated to a governing style,” he wrote.
He also pointed to the damage with Canada. He cited polling showing three-quarters of Canadians now say the United States is not a trustworthy ally.
“It will take a generation of Canadians, and a generation of American presidents behaving like adults, before Toronto stops reading the fine print on everything Washington says,” he wrote.
Scaramucci argued that Republicans face years of rebuilding. Democrats are on track for about 256 House seats and at least 54 Senate seats, and they flipped six governorships, including in Texas, Ohio, Georgia and Iowa. He wrote that Trump’s mid-decade gerrymanders “backfired: every one of those redrawn districts went blue.”
“The country is exhausted, and exhausted countries don’t give second chances,” he further wrote.
“The job now is to rebuild what he broke,” he concluded, “and to remember exactly who stood next to him while he broke it.”
