Anti-gay Benham brother explains how he saved a gay man with 'love' and Cubs tickets

In a speech to the National Religious Broadcasters convention in Nashville this week, former reality show host David Benham told a rapt crowd of how he reached out and saved a gay man by using "love" and tickets to a Cubs game, reports  The Blaze.

Benham, along with his identical twin brother Jason, had their HGTV reality show, Flip It Forward, cancelled last year after their anti-gay views came to light.

After their show was dropped, the two sons of evangelist and Operation Rescue founder Flip Benham compared the cancellation to the invasion of Normandy, saying, “We know what happened at D-Day. We know what happened on Omaha and Utah beach. There’s something about those men that our dad taught us when we were kids, and he said, ‘Boys, don’t you ever run from bullets. You run toward the bullets.’”

Since that time, the brothers have become high profile guests at religious gatherings, speaking out against marriage equality and the decline of morals in the U.S.

At the NRB convention, David Benham explained to the audience that they continually hear from a hostile gay community but respond with kindness.

Benham related the tale of how he responded to one unidentified gay man who vociferously opposed their anti-gay crusade.

“We had so many people from the gay community reaching out to us and one man in particular from the city of Chicago reached out — and he said things to me that made me lose my appetite,” David Benham told the crowd. “But I simply responded in love.”

"After a little conversation back and forth, I found out he loved baseball … and I got him tickets to a Cubs game,” Benham continued. “He shot me a Facebook post and said, ‘I was not expecting that — and I’ve been thinking a lot about this. I’ve chosen to walk away from my lifestyle.’”

According to The Blaze, the crowd responded warmly to the story, with Benham adding, “What God needs most is a simple voice for truth.”
