Anti-gay Oregon baker thinks he's defeating Satan -- but his bigotry is actually helping Satanists

A now infamous antigay Oregon baker thinks they are fighting Satan by discriminating against the LGBT community, but the Satanic Temple argues their bigotry is actually helping the Satanists recruit.

Aaron Klein, who co-owns Sweet Cakes by Melissa with his wife, went on Rick Wiles' "Trunews" show last week and did a lot of comparing between Germany just before the rise of Hitler and the U.S. Supreme Court's marriage equality ruling in June, Right Wing Watch reports. Those two historical events have a lot in common because Christians are the obvious victims in both cases, they argued.

Wiles made the hilariously bogus comment that "this is a gaystapo. This is just like the Nazi homosexuals in the 1930s. It was a militant, homosexual network that took over Germany. That's what this is."

Despite this radical historical revisionism, gay men were actually targeted by Nazis during that time period and were sent to internment camps.

"You've got to understand that right now there's a hedge around the church," Klein said. "The people who sit in the pews on Sunday are not protected... We have to use what we can right now to stem the tide, because if we don't, you will have the rainbow flag flying above your church because they will be considered 'hate.'"

Wiles then warned that the German churches that were "intimidated by the Nazis" had swastikas flying over them.

"So what you'll have in the United States are cowardly, wimpy churches that will have a rainbow flag. There's no difference," Wiles warned. "The rainbow flag, the Nazi swastika, it's the same thing."

Sweet Cakes by Melissa has effectively gone out of business since being forced to pay $135,000 in damages after not only denying their services to a lesbian couple, but also harassing them in the media and sharing the couple's home address with the public, the Raw Story has reported.

But Klein said he's hopeful that the SCOTUS ruling and changing social norms could be a "turning point."

"Satan has overplayed his hand and we might have a chance for a revival in this country if we do our due diligence and we follow God's word," Klein said.

Not so fast, says Lucien Greaves, co-founder of The Satanic Temple. It's the Christian right that has overplayed its hand instead, and now they're reaping the consequences.

"The more they litigate and legislate in the name of superstitious bigotry, the more their degradation and corruption as a moral institution becomes clear," Greaves wrote in an email to the Raw Story. "What we're seeing today is a Satanic reformation. The more people that are maligned, demonized, and insulted by traditional religious institutions, the more that will embrace Satanism as an expression of their values in opposition to archaic, barbaric Abrahamic tribalism."

The Satanic Temple has expertly trolled and countered religious conservatives by using their own rhetoric against them to check their influence.

Over the weekend, they unveiled a goat-headed Baphomet statue despite threats of violence by religious opponents. The Temple vows to place the statue on public property where religious monuments are placed. The Temple believes the prospect of the Baphomet alongside a Ten Commandments monument on Oklahoma statehouse grounds influenced the state Supreme Court to rule against religious displays on government property.
