Anti-tax crusader whines that Steve Bannon's proposed tax increase on the rich is 'a particularly cruel thing'

Appearing on CNN, Monday afternoon, anti-tax crusader Grover Norquist had a minor meltdown when discussing White House Chief Strategist Steve Bannon's proposal to raise taxes on the rich.

According to an associate of Bannon's, the man who has Trump's ear floated the idea of taxing the wealthy at a higher rate, saying it would be a "potent populist idea."

Speaking with CNN's Brianna Keilar, Norquist took issue with the idea of the rich paying more.

“It’s a particularly cruel thing for Bannon to do,” Norquist said.

“The whole point of high tax rates is so that politicians can tell the middle class, 'Oh, are we screwing you? Not as much as that guy over there,'” the longtime anti-taxation gadfly continued. “High tax rates on the highest income people are an excuse they use to damage the middle class. And if somebody is in the White House and hasn’t read history -- well, that’s unfortunate.”

According to Norquist, Bannon's proposal will be dead on arrival when the Republican leadership gets their hands on it, saying it is a job killer.

“This is not going anywhere,” Norquist said. “It’s a distraction. And it’s an unfortunate distraction, because it’s a cruel joke on middle income people to think that killing their jobs helps them.”
