The author of "Trump Nation" revealed on MSNBC on Thursday afternoon that he has known the financial head of Trump's business empire for years and that it is likely he may have involved himself in financial crimes that could dictate his testimony before a New York grand jury.
Author Tim O'Brien was asked about a Wall Street Journal report stating that the chief financial officer of Trump’s company, Allen Weisselberg, is being called to testify in the Southern District of New York in the case against Trump lawyer Micheal Cohen.
Speaking with host Ari Melber, O'Brien said he has had dealings with Weisselberg for years while working on the book and with Trump.
"I spent a lot of time with Donald Trump whenI was a reporter at the "New York Times, and then working on this book," O'Brien explained. "One of the things he and I batted back and forth, because he put it in the news all the time, was how much money does he actually have. That was always a difficult thing to pin down. He would give me these wildly varying numbers between $1 billion and $10 billion. He and Weisselberg had me there, and they were detailing to me--"
"Do you think he was as fast and loose with others as he was with you?" Melber interrupted.
O'Brien bluntly stated, "He's been fast and loose with everyone, Ari. This is part of the Donald Trump operating manual."
"So you think he has legal exposure when he walks into this grand jury?" Melber pressed.
"Does Allen Weisselberg have legal exposure?" O'Brein replied. "I think everyone around Trump has legal exposure."
