House Republicans must have been counting on their impeachment inquiry against President Joe Biden becoming fodder for right-wing media, but so far conservative outlets have been skeptical of their allegations.
Fox News frequently resembles an extension of the Republican Party, but its hosts, anchors and reporters have poked holes in the evidence presented by GOP lawmakers, and their even further right-wing competitors have barely touched the impeachment proceedings, reported The Guardian.
"Other right-leaning media outlets, if not condemning the impeachment inquiry vote, gave it less, or at least more balanced coverage," reported the publication's Richard Luscombe. "The online Drudge Report lost interest in the story by lunchtime Thursday, dropping both a link to a Reuters news report on the inquiry vote, and an article from the Hill highlighting the lack of evidence against Biden."
"Far-right outlets also had little, or no mention of the impeachment proceedings," Luscombe added. "The website of One America News was focused on Trump’s campaign appearances in Iowa as he pursues the Republican presidential nomination, while Newsmax sandwiched its downpage coverage between an advertisement for single people seeking companionship and a story about toxins in weight-loss drugs."
The skepticism on Fox News has been so notable that Rep. James Comer, the Oversight Committee chair leading the probe, announced he would not longer appear on the normally friendly network, after "Fox & Friends" co-host Steve Doocy repeatedly fact-checked him on air.
