James Comer: Launching impeachment inquiry 'didn't have anything to do with impeachment'

Rep. James Comer's (R-KY) impeachment inquiry into President Joe Biden appeared to be on shaky ground even before President Joe Biden announced he was dropping out of the 2024 presidential election.

Now it seems that even Comer appears to be confused about the purpose of the probe.

As reported by Politico's Jordain Carney, Comer revealed that he has finished his portion of the Biden impeachment inquiry report, although he said he's unsure about whether it will be released soon because both the Judiciary Committee and the Ways and Means Committee are both involved in the effort as well.

Carney then asked Comer if he would be holding a public hearing to discuss the findings of the report and he said that he would not.

He then suggested that the goal of launching the probe was never to actually impeach Biden.

""The reason that [former House Speaker Kevin] McCarthy (R-CA) went to the impeachment inquiry phase was to try to have better standing in court -- it didn't have anything to do with impeachment," said Comer.

The impeachment inquiry into Biden was launched last year after House Republicans had spent months probing the overseas business dealings of the president's son, Hunter Biden.

in the end, Republicans failed to uncover any direct links between the president and his son's business activities, which left House Republicans at something of an investigatory dead end.

Regardless, Biden will not be president after next January given his decision not to seek a second term in office.
