WATCH: Bill Barr slaps down calls to appoint a special counsel to investigate the election

Regarding reports that President Trump floated the idea of appointing a special counsel to investigate his unfounded claims of mass voter fraud, outgoing Attorney General Bill Barr said at a press conference this Monday that such an appointment is not the "right tool" at "this stage."

Barr said that while there's fraud in "most elections," he stands by earlier comments where he said there was not significant enough fraud in the 2020 election to justify trying to overturn the results.

When asked by a reporter to clarify his position on a special counsel and whether there's enough evidence to warrant appointing one, Barr replied, "If I thought a special counsel at this stage was the right tool and was appropriate, I would name one, and I haven't, and I'm not going to."
