A prominent neoconservative writer and political analyst torched former first lady Melania Trump's decision to take $237,000 for a "speaking engagement" fee in April that was for her appearance at a Log Cabin Republicans fundraiser.
Reacting to the report on CNN's "OutFront," Bill Kristol founding director of Defending Democracy Together, said "the grift never stops with the Trumps."
"It's really unbelievable," he said, pointing to another questionable Trump business venture: Trump Coins, commemorative coins and collectibles associated with former President Donald Trump featuring his likeness.

"When I was a Republican, I spoke at a couple functions for the Log Cabin people. I didn't know I could get $237,000. I did it for free because I was a Republican and they were a Republican group, you know? That's kind of what Republicans do. What Democrats do for Democratic groups too."
As the panel chuckled, Kristol continued laying into the Trumps.
"I mean it really is amazing. The hucksterism, the grift," he said, noting that neither Mr. nor Mrs. Trump stops the need to make more money, even six weeks before the election.
Republican strategist Shermichael Singleton, who was also on the panel, questioned the decision as well.
"Does it make the best sense in the world considering the political climate Erin? Probably not," he said, adding he probably would've advised Melania Trump to hold off until after the election.
The news comes days after Donald Trump announced he was launching a cryptocurrency exchange, and months after he announced a sneaker line, Bibles, NFTs and even pieces of a suit he wore during his Georgia criminal booking.
