Bill Maher: The GOP's Frankenstein monster isn't Trump -- it's the people voting for him

The fact that Donald Trump amassed 13 million votes in the GOP primaries had Bill Maher concerned about the election during Friday's episode of Real Time.

"I think the Frankenstein monster is the Trump voter more than Trump," he told his panel, as he pointed out that he led Democrat Hillary Clinton by 23 points among white voters without a college degree.

At the same time, he fretted that the US electorate was "dumb and tacky" enough to tilt the vote in his favor under the premise that he would "shake things up."

"The electorate is like that gorilla in the Cincinnati Zoo -- and democracy is the toddler," he said. "We don't know whether it'll cradle it or f*cking kill it."

But CNBC co-host Andrew Ross Sorkin said he doubted whether Trump was "a true racist."

"He's 70. That's what he is," Maher replied."

"Usually he says something that makes no sense and then he rolls it back," Sorkin said, before alluding to Trump's verbal attacks on federal judge Gonzalo Curiel: "The reason why he lost points this week was, for some bizarre reason, he doubled down."
