Bobby Jindal clashes with Rand Paul for knocking GOP 'hawks': He's 'to the left' of Obama and Hillary

Louisiana Gov. Bobby Jindal and fellow Republican Rand Paul traded barbs throughout the day on Wednesday after the Kentucky senator blamed party "hawks" for the increased firepower carried by the Islamic State terrorist group, Politico reported.

"What we've learned today is that Sen. Paul is to the left of President Obama and Hillary Clinton on foreign policy," said Timmy Teepell, an advisor for the governor. "It is the kind of blame-America rhetoric we normally only hear from Hollywood celebrities and Al Jazeera commentators. Senator Paul is a one-term senator, with no executive experience, and we all know how that has worked out in the current administration."

The war of words began following Paul's appearance on Morning Joe on Wednesday morning, saying the "hawks" in the party were hungry for more armed conflict after 20 years of foreign policy mistakes.

"Right now there are 1,500 groups, many of them bad people, including ISIS, that hawks in our party have been arming," he said. "ISIS exists and grew stronger because of the hawks in our party, who gave arms indiscriminately, and most of those arms were snatched up by ISIS."

Jindal, who is likely to join Paul as a 2016 Republican presidential hopeful, posted a statement on his website saying the remarks made Paul "unfit to be commander-in-chief."

"It’s one thing for Senator Paul to take an outlandish position as a Senator at Washington cocktail parties, but being Commander-in-Chief is an entirely different job," the statement read. "We should all be clear that evil and Radical Islam are at fault for the rise of ISIS, and people like President Obama and Hillary Clinton exacerbate it."

A spokesperson for Paul, Doug Stafford, retaliated in part by citing the $1.6 billion deficit Louisiana is expected to face next year.

"It's ironic Gov. Jindal would level such a charge when he flip-flops on crucial issues like Common Core and national security, and he has cratered his own state's economy and budget," said Paul senior adviser. "Senator Paul is the only Republican running it seems who is willing to learn from our mistakes in the Middle East in order to keep us safer and stronger."
