Bombshell report explains how Pence could be a 'star witness' in Mueller's obstruction case against Trump

Independent journalist Murray Waas has published an explosive new report in the New York Review of Books that claims Vice President Mike Pence could be a "star witness" in special counsel Robert Mueller's obstruction of justice case against President Donald Trump.

Waas writes that, through both interviewing White House sources and obtaining confidential White House memos, he has learned that Pence, White House counsel Don McGahn and former chief of staff Reince Priebus all went to Trump on February 10, 2017 and told him that he needed to fire then-national security adviser Mike Flynn.

The reason that they decided Flynn needed to go, according to Waas, was that they had all reviewed intercepted conversations that Flynn had with then-Russian ambassador Sergey Kislyak that showed the two men discussed sanctions leveled against Russia. This directly contradicted what Flynn had told both Pence and the media when he was questioned on it.

Despite being confronted with direct evidence that his own national security adviser had blatantly lied about his contacts with a Russian official, Trump refused to fire Flynn.

At this point, according to Waas' account, two White House officials decided to leak the story about Flynn's lies to the Washington Post, which published a story on February 13th that revealed the U.S. Department of Justice had warned the White House that Flynn was now susceptible to Russian blackmail.

Flynn would resign his position later that night.

"This new information suggests that Vice President Pence could prove to be a crucial witness in Special Counsel Robert Mueller’s investigation into whether Trump obstructed justice," explains Waas. "As a participant in crucial meetings that led to Flynn’s firing, Pence has vital information for investigators that can shed light on these questions."
