Newly released video footage shows the right-wing candidate for Wisconsin Supreme Court suggesting America might need a "violent revolution" to defeat socialism.
The footage, obtained by the progressive investigative reporting outfit Heartland Signal, comes from a political event for the Republican party in Adams County last July.
“There’s other places that have had some degrees of freedom, but nothing like here,” said Schimel. “If we let this go, it’s gone. And you know what? To get it back, there has to be another bloody revolution. Because the socialists won’t give it up.” He went on to add, “With socialism, there’s a handful of people who have all the money and all the power, and everybody else is screwed. These people, the Obamas, they know which side of that they’re on.”

Schimel, who is currently a judge for the Waukesha court, previously served as the attorney general of Wisconsin, and was a frequent source of controversy; in 2018, he gave a speech to Alliance Defending Freedom, an anti-gay hate group that engages in legal advocacy against civil rights causes.
He is the conservative candidate for the Wisconsin Supreme Court race this year, which will decide a seat being vacated by liberal Justice Ann Bradley Walsh. His liberal opponent is Dane County Circuit Judge Susan Crawford.
The election will determine whether liberals maintain their recently won majority, which they have used to reshape the state's jurisprudence, among other things wiping out the GOP's legislative gerrymander and appearing poised to strike down the state's 175-year-old abortion ban.
