'A bunch of nonsense': Stormy Daniels' lawyer rips Trump for accusing FBI of politicizing the Russia probe

Shortly after news broke that his personal attorney Michael Cohen was raided by the FBI, President Donald Trump said the search was the result of a witch hunt by the bureau and special counsel Robert Mueller in what he called an "attack on our country." As the lawyer representing the woman who allegedly had an affair with Trump in 2006 sees it, that comment was deliberately misleading.

"The president's accusations relating to Mueller and the alleged witch hunt are an absolute red herring," Michael Avenatti, the attorney for alleged Trump mistress Stormy Daniels, told CNN's Anderson Cooper.

"There's nothing suggesting that it had anything to do with Mueller's investigation," the lawyer continued, noting that the U.S. Attorney for the Southern District of New York, who reportedly was involved in issuing the warrant for the raid, "is a Trump appointee."

"The idea that this is politicized is a bunch of nonsense," Avenatti said.
