California man arrested after attack on teen girl is caught on home security camera

A 31-year-old San Leandro, California man was arrested on Friday after footage of an attack on a 13-year-old girl spread online, KGO-TV reported.

Local police identified Mohammad Khaliqi as the man caught on security camera footage as he followed the girl to her San Jose home, forced his way in, and assaulted her.

"The guy starts a conversation with her and when she opens up the door, the suspect pushes her in, tries to sexually assault her as well," Sgt. Enrique García said. "The little girl is brave, she fights back, and the guy leaves on foot."

The video was aired by ABC News earlier this week, and police said the video was widely shared online, leading to more than 100 tips being called in regarding the case.

According to the San Jose Mercury News, Khaliqi is also suspected of attacking a 28-year-old woman after following her into a public restroom at a grocery store in nearby Saratoga. That victim was also able to fight the suspect off, police said.

"He's not concerned about being caught, since he's doing this in broad daylight," Garcia said.

The suspect reportedly lived within walking distance of both attacks. He was charged with multiple charges of attempted sexual assault, burglary, and false imprisonment.
