Cambridge Analytica suspends their CEO as footage of him discussing illegal tactics airs live

Cambridge Analytica, the embattled data firm at the heart of the scandal over Russian interference during the 2016 presidential campaign, has suspended CEO Alexander Nix, the company announced Tuesday.

"The Board of Cambridge Analytica has announced today that it has suspended CEO Alexander Nix with immediate effect, pending a full, independent investigation," the company declared. "In the view of the Board, Mr. Nix’s recent comments secretly recorded by Channel 4 and other allegations do not represent the values or operations of the firm and his suspension reflects the seriousness with which we view this violation."

Dr. Alexander Tayler will serve as acting CEO and Julian Malin QC has been asked to lead the investigation, the results of which the company has promised to share publicly.

Whistleblower Christopher Wylie charged Cambridge Analytica was working with Trump campaign officials as far back as 2015.

Facebook suspended Cambridge Analytica from using their social media platform, following the Saturday revelation that 50 million Facebook accounts were exploited.
