U.S. District Court Judge Aileen Cannon issued a ruling blocking the second volume of former special counsel Jack Smith's report, which centered on President Donald Trump's alleged mishandling of classified documents at Mar-a-Lago following his first term in office.
Under Cannon's Monday order, the Department of Justice is prevented from "releasing, distributing, conveying, or sharing with anyone outside the Department of Justice any information or conclusions in Volume II or in drafts thereof."
Cannon suggested that releasing the report would be unfair to Trump because it allegedly "would contravene basic notions of fairness and justice."
Smith was permitted to release Volume 1 of his report on Trump's plot to overturn the 2020 presidential election.
