Carly Fiorina defends her lie with a whole bunch of lies

I do like it when Republican candidates sport a resume full of corporate executive work, because it really shows the public how many fools and idiots coast into that position not on merit but on their bullshitting abilities. Donald Trump, Herman Cain, and now we have Carly Fiorina, who just can't understand why her perceived underlings (voters, journalists) won't scurry away, pretending to accept her bullshit like former employees of hers had to do, lest they lost their jobs.

And so it goes that Fiorina, who could make this entire Planned Parenthood controversy go away by saying something like, "I may have misremembered the video, but I still think abortion is wrong," instead is doubling and tripling down. And every time she does, she lies more and more. She was on Meet the Press and, so enamored of the idea that she is perfect and could never do anything wrong, just went to town with the defensive posturing.

Chuck, Chuck, Chuck, Chuck, Chuck. Do you think this is not happening? Does Hillary Clinton think this is not happening? So sad that you missed the opportunity to ask Mrs. Clinton why she said, ‘Late-term abortions were only performed for medical purposes.’ That is patently false. This is happening in America today. And taxpayers are paying for it. That is a fact. It is a reality. And no one can run away from it.

There are two major lies in this. There's a blatant lie, that taxpayers are paying for abortions, which is a straightforward lie, as there's been a ban on federal funding for abortion, except in the case of medical necessity or rape.

Then there's the other lie, the one about "late term" abortions. She's playing a little bit of rhetorical three card monte here. The term "late term" is really vague and only means "later than I think is acceptable", which could mean anything from 3rd trimester abortions to getting your period on the grounds that there might be a fertilized egg in there. She's trying to hand wave away the fact that the later the abortion, the more likely it's being done for medical reasons, and imply, John McCain-style, that women who have eclampsia or are facing major fetal defects are just bullshitting because they were too lazy to get an abortion in the first trimester.

Then there's this:

The hypocrisy of Democrats who stand up and oppose every time taxpayer funding for, say, pregnancy centers, that are also very much focused on women’s health, but no, Democrats don’t want taxpayer funding for pregnancy centers. I just visited one in South Carolina. They are all privately funded. This is hypocrisy on Democrats’ part. This is about a political slush fund. It is about the character of our nation. And yes, we should stand up and fight on this issue.

It's increasingly clear that the "community health center" gambit that Republicans are using is about crisis pregnancy centers---about redirecting funds that go to Planned Parenthood to these places. What Fiorina fails to note is that these centers do not offer STI testing or treatment, contraception, well woman visits, or Pap smears. They offer you a couple diapers and a lecture on abstaining from sex. The only people who believe this is women's health care are people who believe that women should never have sex unless they intend to procreate. Republican politicians won't say that out loud, but that is the clear implication of this argument.

She also went on Fox News and said, "They're trying to distract the American people from the hideous reality that Planned Parenthood is aborting fetuses alive to harvest their brains and other body parts. That is a fact."

That is not a fact. Abortions are performed at Planned Parenthood and every single other abortion clinic for one reason: The patient needs an abortion. She may have medical issues or a fetal defect. In most cases, she needs it for personal reasons, namely that she cannot or does not want to have a baby right now. It doesn't matter, because abortions are always, always patient-directed. Fiorina's implication, that they're luring women into getting abortions to get at that precious fetal tissue that they then donate at no profit to themselves, is not only completely false, it doesn't even make fucking sense.
