Catholic priest slams Trump's Pastor for saying Jesus wasn't a refugee: 'What Bible is she reading?'

A Manhattan Catholic priest, Rev. James Martin, shook his head in disbelief in response to Paula White’s biblical comments about immigrant detention centers during an interview with CNN's Anderson Cooper.

White, serves as President Trump’s spiritual advisor. Recently, she visited an immigrant detention center. In an interview with the Christian Broadcast Network, White claimed that Jesus was not a refugee.

“I think so many people have taken biblical scriptures out of context on this, to say stuff like, ‘Well, Jesus was a refugee,’” White said. “Yes, [Jesus] did live in Egypt for three-and-a-half years. But it was not illegal. If He had broken the law then He would have been sinful and He would not have been our Messiah.”

Martin said it was "appalling" that she would use the bible to defend President Trump's zero tolerance immigration policy.

“I wonder what gospel she is reading. Jesus sets aside a lot of traditions. He goes against Jewish laws. He heals on the Sabbath. He touches people who are unclean ritually and pure,” he said. “Really Jesus' whole point over and over again is that God's laws supersede man's laws. Here is the Bible [being used to] validate kids being taken away from their parents, and it’s really appalling, in my mind.”
