Country music phenom Kelly Clarkson expressed support for Hillary Clinton's presidential candidacy this week, prompting a backlash from conservative fans.

In an interview with Rolling Stone, a reporter asked Clarkson, "Speaking of presidents, the election is starting to get in gear. Do you like any of the candidates?" The pop star replied, "I'm a fan of Hillary. She's badass. I don't just want a woman to win, I want the right person. And I think she's also that."

Team Clinton, reacting to Clarkson's compliments, tweeted their own affirmation of the American Idol alum on Thursday:

Bustle points out Clinton has been a fan of Kelly Clarkson's at least as far back as 2012, when the then Secretary of State emailed her deputies the following statement of encouragement before they testified at a congressional hearing: "Well, what doesn’t kill you, makes you stronger (as I have rationalized for years), so just survive and you’ll have triumphed!"

"Stronger (Doesn't Kill You)" was a Friedrich Nietzsche-inspired pop hit Clarkson took to the top of the billboard charts in 2011.
