The FBI has recovered several identifying materials of the shooter suspected of shooting and killing right-wing influencer Charlie Kirk Wednesday, officials announced during a press conference Thursday morning.
“This morning I can tell you that we have recovered what we believe is the weapon that was used in yesterday's shooting: it is a high-powered bolt-action rifle,” said FBI Special Agent Robert Bohls.
“That rifle was recovered in a wooded area where the shooter had fled. The FBI laboratory will be analyzing this weapon. Investigators have also collected footwear impressions, a palm print, and forearm imprints for analysis.”
Officials also said that they have obtained video – described as “good footage” – of an individual suspected of being the perpetrator, but said they would “not release that at this time.”
Kirk was shot and killed Wednesday while speaking at Utah Valley University, a killing that has sparked widespread condemnation from across the political spectrum. President Trump addressed the nation from the Oval Office condemning the attack, and blaming it on rhetoric from the “radical left.”
