Cher slams Trump's 'disingenuous' promises to gay fans: 'My people will not believe him'

Singer and actress Cher ripped into Donald Trump on Tuesday for what she described as his insincere attempts to woo LGBTQ voters.

"He's the most disingenuous man I've ever seen," she told MSNBC host Lawrence O'Donnell in a phone interview. "I want to tell you: my people will not believe him for a minute."

At last month's Republican National Convention, Trump said he would protect LGBTQ Americans from attacks like the Orlando massacre that left 49 people dead at a gay nightclub.

"As your president, I will do everything in my power to protect our LGBTQ citizens from the violence and oppression of a hateful foreign ideology," he said at the time.

But the Academy Award-winner, who has publicly backed Democrat Hillary Clinton rejected his argument, arguing that Trump met with a group of anti-LGBTQ religious leaders since winning the nomination.

"How does he go from that meeting to telling my people that he will protect them?" she asked.

As Billboard magazine reported, Cher also criticized both Trump and his running mate, Indiana Gov. Mike Pence (R), at a rally for Clinton on Sunday.

"I fear for you because I know what they will try to do -- they will try to turn back every clock, they will try to take back every one of your rights," she said.
