Chicago cops to be punished for 'taking a knee' in protest against police brutality

After a weekend of intense political debate about the increasingly popular "take a knee" protest spurred on by President Donald Trump, two Chicago police officers are facing a reprimand for engaging in their own protest.

According to the Chicago Sun-Times, two uniformed officers were photographed kneeling with fists raised in the "black power symbol" -- and the Chicago Police Department was not pleased.

"We are aware of the photo," CPD spokesman Anthony Guglielmi told the Sun-Times on Monday, "and we will address it in the same way we have handled previous incidents in which officers have made political statements while in uniform, with a reprimand and a reminder of department policies."

The photo was posted on the Instagram account of a woman who sells shirts bearing the anti-police brutality slogan "Hugs no slugs," and appears to have been taken inside a police station in Chicago's South Side.

In the Instagram post, the user who posted the photo took and posted the photo of the took officers said she walked into a police department, asked the officers if they are against police brutality and stand with former 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick's protest, and then took a knee when she requested it.
