Jim Jordan and Byron Donalds floated to replace Mike Johnson as speaker

Rep. Chip Roy (R-TX) refused to commit to supporting Rep. Mike Johnson (R-LA) as speaker of the House in the next Congress and instead floated the names of other Republicans like Rep. Jim Jordan (R-OH).

During a Tuesday interview on Fox Business, Roy said he hadn't decided to support Johnson despite President-elect Donald Trump's endorsement for reelecting him as speaker.

"I remain undecided, as do a number of my colleagues, because we saw so many of the failures last year that we are concerned about that might limit or inhibit our ability to advance the president's agenda," Roy said. "[Johnson] passed $200 billion that is taking money out of Social Security to transfer it, which will hasten the bankruptcy of Social Security by six months."

"I don't believe that he has the votes on Friday," Roy continued. "Mike's a friend, and maybe he can answer the call, and he can deliver an agenda and a plan. Byron Donalds is a good man and a good friend. I supported him. I nominated him two years ago."

"Jim Jordan is a good man and a good friend. There are other members of leadership in the conference who could do the job."
