Chris Christie takes on his fellow former Trump aides: 'Bad and stupid people lie all the time for no reason'

Former New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie took his fellow former Trump aides to task Tuesday during an interview with MSNBC's Nicolle Wallace — and even called some of them "bad" and "unintelligent."

Christie claimed that Mike Flynn, Donald Trump's indicted former national security adviser, was a "train wreck."

"I had met him a few times when we went to an intelligence briefing," the former Trump aide said. "As two staffers to then-candidate Trump, and he was outrageous in that briefing. Interrupting. Demeaning. And just showing off in a way that was just immature."

Christie said he spoke with Trump "a half-dozen times" about Flynn's unfitness for the role — including on the day after the 2016 election, just before Christie was fired from the transition team. In that conversation, Trump told him he was hiring Flynn as his national security adviser.

"He told me he was doing it," the former governor recalled. "He said, 'you just don't like him.' I said, 'you're right, I don't like him. You want to know why?' He said yes. And I said, 'because he's going to get you in trouble.'"

Wallace noted that former attorney general Jeff Sessions, whom Christie was "pretty hard on" in his Trump campaign tell-all book "Let Me Finish: Trump, the Kushners, Bannon, New Jersey, and the Power of In-Your-Face Politics," also lied about his contacts with Russian officials.

"Take away your 17-year friendship with Donald Trump," she said. "Why would so many people tell so many lies about Russia?"

"In my experience, bad people and stupid people lie all the time, for no reason at all, because it's just who they are," Christie responded.

"Jeff Sessions is bad and stupid?" Wallace pressed.

"I don't think Jeff was bright enough to be in the position where he is," the former governor responded.

The host continued: "So just stupid but not bad?"

"No, I don't think he's a bad person," Christie responded. "I like Jeff on a personal level, I really do."
