Trump campaign official accuses anti-Trump PAC of defamation over incendiary ads: report

A key member of Donald Trump's campaign is accusing a prominent anti-Trump group of defamation, according to a new report.

The Lincoln Project raised eyebrows over its incendiary advertisements, including some of which targeted Trump campaign officials Chris LaCivita and Susie Wiles, who is now the president-elect's pick for chief of staff.

One ad took aim at a report that senior adviser LaCivita raked in a fortune from the campaign.

“Donald, you are such a sucker,” the ad said. “And you don’t even know it.”

“Chris LaCivita? Twenty-two million? Are you kidding?”

Another ad from the organization prompted a cease-and-desist order from LaCivita. That ad, titled, "Failures," attacked LaCivita and Wiles.

"If Susie and Chris got it so wrong, what else have they screwed up?" the ad chided, asserting that the two told Trump that President Joe Biden should never quit and to pour millions into attacking Biden in advertisements.

On Tuesday, Politico reported that LaCivita is now hitting back at The Lincoln Project in a new letter and that lawyers with the Republican National Committee accused the PAC of defamation. LaCivita’s attorneys have pointed to posts in a video titled, “Sucker.”

In that ad, the group said: “If Trump’s own campaign manager, Chris LaCivita, can pull a fast one on Trump, think what America’s enemies can do to him. We can’t let this patsy be President again.”

“The allegations in the ‘Sucker’ video created by The Lincoln Project, and published on multiple online platforms controlled by the Lincoln Project, as well as the related posts … center around the false and defamatory claim that Mr. LaCivita received compensation in the amount of $22 million from Donald Trump and the Trump Campaign,” LaCivita’s lawyers said. "The allegations in the video relating to Mr. LaCivita are categorically false and belied by public campaign finance records."
