Christian law firm: Anti-LGBT parenting study shows ‘true science always’ reinforces the Bible

Members of a law firm associated with Rev. Jerry Falwell's Liberty University on Monday claimed that "true science" always strengthened Bible teachings like LGBT couples are bad parents.

On Monday's Faith and Freedom radio broadcast," Liberty Counsel's Steve Crampton and Harry Mihet pointed to a debunked New Family Structure Study (NFSS) from the University of Texas at Austin that concluded children raised by same sex parents fared worse than children raised by straight parents.

"True science always seems to me to reinforce and strengthen what the scripture tells us from the start," Crampton explained.

"That's right," Mihet agreed. "And we have known that from a common standpoint all along. There are things that a mom is uniquely equipped to teach a daughter and there are things that only a dad could teach a son that you can not replace or dispense with."

"Sadly enough, I think there's been a co-opting of the institutions," Crampton opined. "Experts mostly come to the table today with a particular bias. It's not so much about truth, it's about the furthering of a particular agenda. So you have a wealth of what we call 'junk science' out there."

Earlier this month, the American Family Association's Bryan Fischer used the same study as proof that kids were facing “a form of sexual abuse” when they were adopted by same sex couples.

Constitutional Accountability Center President Doug Kendall told Mother Jones‘ Adam Serwer that if the NFSS is valid — and there is evidence that it’s not — then people were drawing the wrong conclusions.

“If a child born in poverty is less likely to thrive as an adult, no one would argue that poor people can’t get married?” Kendall observed. “Even if it’s true [that LGBT people's kids do worse], it should not be relevant to the constitutional question of invidious discrimination.”

The American Psychological Association has concluded that there is “no scientific evidence that parenting effectiveness is related to parental sexual orientation.”
