‘He needs to step aside!’ Furious Fox News host scorches absent GOP senator

Fox News’ Joe Concha erupted Saturday over Sen. Mitch McConnell’s (R-KY) months-long health-related absence and demanded the Kentucky Republican either return to work this month or vacate his seat.

McConnell has been absent from the Senate since mid-June following his hospitalization, which his office was initially slow to provide details on. It was discovered weeks later that McConnell was reportedly found unconscious at his home and administered CPR, leading many to speculate that his condition was far worse than previously known.

Some, including close ally to President Donald Trump and far-right influencer Laura Loomer, even claimed, without evidence, that McConnell was “officially brain dead.”

Another Republican member of Congress from Kentucky, Rep. James Comer, appeared on Fox News’ “The Big Weekend Show” Saturday to claim that McConnell was expected to return to the Senate sometime in September, citing conversations he had with McConnell’s staff. Fox News host Tomi Lahren apparently wasn’t satisfied with Comer’s attempt to quell concerns.

“I don't know if that's quite fair to the American people though, that unelected staffers are running the show for Sen. Mitch McConnell,” Lahren said. “I think we've got to play it fair here.”

Fox News’ Lucas Tomlinson concurred with Lahren, noting that McConnell’s more than two months away from the Senate was “a long time,” and Concha issued McConnell a blunt ultimatum.

“I'll say it: If he does not come back in September, he needs to step down! Enough of this already!” Concha said.

“How many months has it been since we even heard from him directly? I don't want to see proof-of-life photos from a hospital bed anymore, he needs to get in front of a microphone and prove that he can do this job! And if he can't, he needs to step aside, period!”
