Chuck Todd says Donald Trump is like a Big Pharma experiment: 'It might kill you'

MSNBC host Chuck Todd compared Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump to an "experimental drug" on his Thursday evening show. Todd claimed that like any drug, Trump could cure us or kill us.

Yahoo's Matt Bai described the complicated election as being like a multiplex theater.

"You're standing there with a ticket and you go to one or the other," he said. "The first one is one you hated, you've seen it before, you didn't like how it ended. The next one is one that people said is the worst movie ever made. A lot of people are going to entertain the movie they haven't seen and it becomes a question of can he clear the bar, can he make himself enough of a credible movie that you're not embarrassed to say you went to see it?"

Todd then cited Republican Kristin Anderson, who said that Trump was like an "experimental drug. There's all sorts of side effects. But you think, maybe it will cure me."

"But it might kill you," said Daniella Gibbs Leger from the Center for American Progress.

"It might kill you, too," Todd replied, saying that it was Anderson's point. "You don't know which, but some might be willing take an experimental drug."

Bai continued to defend the Clinton strategy of letting Trump destroy himself. He explained that Trump spent the summer bloodying himself "to the point that he wasn't even going to see straight." Ultimately, however, the Trump campaign managed to ensure the race tightened up as the staff, family and candidates learned to stop humiliating themselves. At least for the time being.
