Trump's second term reveals grim truth about American voters

Political theorist Alan Elrod argued President Donald Trump's second term represents a damning indictment of American society, particularly regarding his Iran war prosecution.

Writing for Liberal Currents and in his conversation with The New Republic's Greg Sargent, Elrod noted Trump made his unfitness clear in 2016 by bragging about force and sexual harassment, yet Americans elected him again despite his COVID-19 mismanagement and role in inciting an insurrection.

Elrod characterized Trump's career as built on "subterfuge and bullying," and the gaining of illegal leverage, tactics that prove ineffective against Iran's permanent geographic control of the Strait of Hormuz.

He warned that Trump, lacking an understanding of military force limits, could "unleash millions of deaths" through nuclear strikes.

Elrod then concluded that Trump consolidated government power entirely within himself.

His assessment was stark: "No morally healthy country would put this man in power twice," adding, "We have become a morally insane, civically disordered, and self-regardingly decadent country."
