Clinton shames GOP Congress on gun gridlock: 'The American people deserve better'

Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clinton shamed the Republican lead House at Sunday's U.S. Conference of Mayors for their inaction on gun safety.

"No person should be gunned down while learning, teaching, praying or dancing," Clinton "It is time for us to come together to strengthen our gun laws and keep dangerous weapons out of the hands of dangerous people."

Clinton's words come just two weeks after the most deadly mass shooting in U.S. history, where 49 people were shot at an Orlando, Florida night club.

Democrats staged a 36-hour sit-in, in breach of House rules, to raise awareness for shooting victims and their colleagues' resistance to act legislatively. House Republicans adjourned until after the Fourth of July holiday.

"Congress is paralyzed," Clinton told the city leaders. "Not a filibuster in the Senate, not a sit-in in the House could convince the leadership to move forward. I really believe the American people deserve better."
