CNN journalists hit by fresh round of attacks from neo-Nazi website's army of trolls
July 14, 2017
It had barely been a week since the DailyStormer's "troll army" went after reporters from CNN's "K-File" when they found another target at the network.
According to The Wrap, trolls from the neo-Nazi site are now attacking CNN correspondent Sara Sidner and producer Mallory Simon for reporting on a Jewish woman who's been harassed for months by the same trolls who are now coming after the reporters.
Sidner and Simon's story focused on Tanya Gersch, a Jewish mom in Montana whose dispute with Sherry Spencer (mother of alt-right activist and inauguration punching meme Richard Spencer) led to her and her family being inundated with threatening calls and emails from anti-Semitic trolls.
Now, the people who set out to reveal the hatred of the "troll army" have become the recipients of it after the DailyStormer caught wind of their in-depth profile of Gersch's experiences.
According to Sidner, the trolls aren't just skilled in tracking down the personal information of their targets -- they also know what lines to toe to keep from getting police involved.
“We’ve gotten a couple of things but they never go as far as a death threat. For example, they will not say, ‘I am going to kill you.' They will say, ‘I hope you kill yourself,'" Sidner told The Wrap. “We know that they discuss what would get, for example, the FBI involved. Where there is an actual death threat that is illegal. 'I hope you die, I hope you crawl into an oven'… those are things that both Mallory and I have read that were directed to us.”
