CNN panel amazed that it has to report Trump is behaving like an adult for Bush funeral: 'Shouldn't be news but it is'

A panel of reporters on CNN's Inside Politics laughed at the idea that it was news that President Donald Trump was behaving graciously after the death of former President George H.W. Bush, considering his behavior after the death of a previous rival, John McCain.

"A confidante told CNN the Trump White House has been, in this source's words, 'perfect and beyond gracious' in assisting with the logistics. This should not be news, but it is," King said, citing Trump's primary battle with Jeb Bush and insults the president has hurled at the Bush family more generally. "They ran against each other and his past comments about W. and George H. W. Bush. Why is it news?"

"It is such a relief for the people in the White House who lived through the headache that was the John McCain funeral," chimed in Kaitlan Collins. "There was so much drama that week that people in the WH said it was debilitating to the work environment."

Collins and reporter Ayesha Rascoe agreed that, much like an attention-starved child, Trump was on his best behavior because he was "involved and he's part of the pomp and the circumstance."

"Given that the last thing he said about H.W. Bush was mocking his Thousand Points of Light, the volunteer foundation he started, I don't think it's a given he acted like this," Collins said. "But White House officials are relieved that it's gone so smoothly."

"By having him involved and making sure he is invited and making sure that he is welcome, he has been known to kind of be able to change on a dime," laughed Rascoe, noting Trump's love affair with Kim Jong Un. "He has shown he can change very quickly, especially if you're nice to him."
