CNN's Anderson Cooper gets emotional over White House response to synagogue shooting
October 29, 2018
Whether they were tears of rage or sorrow is uncertain. What is clear is that CNN's Anderson Cooper became emotional discussing the Sarah Sanders' teary, defensive Monday press conference after 11 congregants were murdered by an anti-Semite at Tree of Life synagogue on Saturday.
"An anti-Semite, police say, committed a massacre inside the Tree of Life synagogue, which is just behind me," said Cooper struggling to hold back tears has he detailed the crime.
"Moments ago, the White House held its first briefing in three and a half weeks," Cooper continued, noting the administration's contentious relationship with the press. "Press Secretary Sarah Sanders became emotional as she spoke of the president's support of Jewish Americans."
After cutting to a recap of Sanders' breakdown, a now stone-faced and clearly skeptical Cooper pointed out that she had spent much of the press conference defending Trump "against accusations that he's enflaming anger and divisions within the nation as it faces the death of 11 members of a synagogue, plus a man accused of a racially charged double murder in Kentucky, and a suspect accused of sending more than a dozen mail bombs to critics of President Trump."
