CNN's Cuomo roasts Trump's Manafort dealings: He wants to drain the swamp but hires 'some big alligators'

President Donald Trump's campaign pledge to "drain the swamp" is again being ridiculed in the wake of new revelations about his former campaign manager offering to give a Kremlin-connected Russian oligarch private briefings during the 2016 presidential race.

CNN's Chris Cuomo roasted Trump's past dealings with Manafort on CNN Thursday during an interview with Rep. Jim Himes (D-CT), in which Himes speculated that Manafort might have engaged in a quid-pro-quo arrangement with Russian officials in exchange for them helping Trump's presidential campaign.

"I think that's a story that's going to be told," Himes predicted.

Cuomo wouldn't go that far, but he did say that Trump seems to constantly hire shady individuals with ties to Russian oligarchs.

"At a minimum, a man who promised to drain the swamp seems to have surrounded himself with some big alligators," he said.

Manafort, whose home was raided this past summer as part of the investigation into Russian interference in the 2016 presidential election, has become a central figure in the probe. Trump fired Manafort as his campaign manager last summer after multiple reports shed light on his connections to a pro-Russian political party in Ukraine.
