CNN's Jim Acosta rips Trump's 'childish' response to Pelosi: DC has 'officially become a playground'

The Trump administration issued a letter Thursday prohibiting House Speaker Nancy Pelosi from going on a planned trip abroad.

The president's spokeswoman, Sarah Huckabee Sanders, cited the government shutdown.

"Due to the shutdown, I am sorry to inform you that your trip to Brussels, Egypt and Afghanistan has been postponed," Sanders wrote. "We will reschedule the 7 day excursion when the shutdown is over." She also called the visit a photo-op.

As political analysts grappled with whether the president has the authority to deny Pelosi permission to travel, it became increasingly clear that the shutdown—now in its 27th day—is not likely to be resolved amicably.

CNN's Jim Acosta slammed Trump's latest gambit.

"Our nation's capital has become a playground," Acosta said. "The president has responded in sort of a childish way is the only way to describe it to the House Speaker Nancy Pelosi."
