CNN's Phil Mudd destroys concerns that Manafort will die behind bars: 'He just doesn't like the prison food'

CNN counterterrorism analyst Phil Mudd hit back against comments about the potentially-lengthy prison sentence for former Trump campaign chairman Paul Manafort.

As reports noted that Manafort is facing up to 24 years in prison for financial fraud undertaken when he was working as a foreign agent, many, like CNN host Wolf Blitzer, pointed out that the former Trump campaign leader is "about to turn 70" and is not in good health.

"He's 69, soon to turn 70," Mudd, a former intelligence official, said. "He's not 89. He's not about ready to die."

Manafort doesn't have "terminal cancer," the counterterrorism expert noted, joking that maybe he has gout and that his apparent health issues came from him not liking prison food "or something."

"If you're looking for the sympathy vote, if you're going to either what he did or things like health and age, I don't think it's gonna work," Mudd added. "He's done."

Shortly after the segment aired, Manafort was sentenced to a mere 47 months in prison.
