CNN political analyst Jeffrey Toobin on Friday expressed disbelief over Republicans complaining about Donald Trump’s proposed tariffs, explaining that, despite all the public outcry, the GOP is still “a rubber stamp” for the president.
“I have to say, I'm pretty skeptical of all this complaining from these Republican senators and congressmen,” Toobin said. “They’re very good about, ‘Oh, we're very concerned.’ How many Republicans have voted against Donald Trump? Very few. How many have voted against the judicial nominees? How many voted against the tax cut. How many of them voted against ObamaCare? A couple and that was a big difference.”
“Ben Sasse gets indignant about gun control,” Toobin continued. “Ben Sasse is a rubber stamp for Donald Trump, legislatively, and so are most of these Republicans.”
“So, all of this sort of complaining about these tariffs rings a little hollow when they wind up following along no matter what,” Toobin concluded.
