Colbert mocks Trump’s SOTU: ‘You can’t have legislation and investigation — whoever heard of law and order?’

Stephen Colbert did a special live version of "The Late Show" to respond to President Donald Trump's latest State of the Union address.

While Colbert had an epic opener, one moment stood out to the late-night host: the bizarre correlation between peace and investigations.

“If I had not been elected president of the United States, we would right now — in my opinion — be in a major war with North Korea,” Trump argued.

Colbert decided that the lines that followed were likely ones Trump thought would get a standing ovation. Instead, Republicans and Democrats seemed confused.

"An economic miracle is taking place in the United States — and the only thing that can stop it are foolish wars, politics, or ridiculous partisan investigations," Trump continued. "If there is going to be peace and legislation, there cannot be war and investigation. It just doesn’t work that way!"

"Even the Republicans are like, 'Hey! Did he? What...?" Colbert joked nearly applauding but stopping himself. "

In his Trump voice, Colbert explained, "You can't have legislation and investigation. Whoever heard of law and order? Come on. You have to choose."
