Columnist slams Republicans for attacking Ralph Northam while ignoring Trump and Steve King

Virginia's Democratic governor, Ralph Northam, is embroiled in a massive scandal related to his page in his medical school yearbook, which depicts a man in blackface standing next to a man in a KKK hood.

GOP figures like party chair Ronna McDaniel have been quick to bash Northam over his racism, joining Democrats in urging him to resign.

But Republicans don't have much moral authority on the issue, a Washington Post columnist wrote Saturday.

"But while Democrats, and decent people everywhere, have a right to demand that Northam step down, Republicans who continue to support a party dominated by Trump can’t be taken seriously on this point," writes Tom Nichols. "There are plenty of good arguments for kicking Northam out of his job. The newfound racial piety of a party that sold its soul to Trump isn’t one of them."
