Comey implores Americans to heal divisions in face of Russian attacks: 'We must disagree without hating'

Former FBI director James Comey implored Americans to stand up to attempts to divide the nation in the face of Russia's electoral attacks.

"We must get better at disagreeing without hating," the former FBI director, who was fired by Donald Trump early in his presidency, tweeted Friday afternoon. "The Russians know 'a house divided against itself cannot stand.' So they push us on social media from all sides."

"If we stand together as Americans and debate issues respectfully," he continued, "then our true enemies will be defeated."

Moments later, Comey added that he never reads Twitter comments — but that he assumes one can "see examples of the problem there."
