Congresswoman says Pelosi will beat Democrats to death to pass health reform
October 06, 2009
In a Fox News radio interview Monday, when asked whether the House Democratic leadership would give members of their party "Christmas tree ornaments" in an effort to effectively bribe members to vote for healthcare reform, Bachmann said House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) could resort to violence.
"She'll either beat them to death, bludgeon them do death...or she'll try to buy them off," Bachmann quipped.
Audio of the exchange appears below.
This isn't Bachmann's first time invoking violent rhetoric. Earlier this year, she told a fundraising crowd that Republicans needed to make a "covenant" to "slit their wrists" in order to ensure healthcare reform didn't pass.
"What we have to do today is make a covenant, to slit our wrists, be blood brothers on this thing. This will not pass. We will do whatever it takes to make sure this doesn't pass," she told a GOP crowd.
"Right now, we are looking at reaching down the throat and ripping the guts out of freedom," the congresswoman added. "And we may never be able to restore it if we don't man up and take this one on." She also declared it "slavery" that some Americans pay half their income in taxes."
Correction: The first version of this article incorrectly stated that Bachmann represented Michigan. In fact, she represents Minnesota.
