During an MSNBC panel discussion on the fall-out over the confirmation of controversial Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh, who was elevated to the court by a slim margin on Saturday, conservative columnist Jennifer Rubin said the Republican Party wallows in white male victimhood.
Asked about the assault on Kavanaugh accuser Christine Blasey Ford by GOP surrogates, Rubin said it was all a part of the GOP playbook.
"This is their game," Rubin told AM Joy host Joy Reid. "They do not want women, who in this case are the victims, to be the victims. They want white males to be the victims."
"Trump said it, he said it is a scary time for men," she continued. "They believe men are the white male victims. And I have got to say, people kept asking, 'Well, why don't they [the GOP] go to somebody else? Why don't they pick another judge that doesn't have this baggage?' And the point of the Republican Party is this: the message is white male fear."
"It's not as if this was incidental, this is the purpose of the party right now. Stir up that fear, that is the message. It's not 'We believe in originalism.' The message is 'Be afraid, white men,'" she concluded.
