Corey Lewandowski was kicked out of Donald Trump's inner circle -- but not for the reasons that have been widely reported.
Trump's former campaign manager and longtime adviser was cut loose from the twice-impeached one-term president's orbit Wednesday after a donor's wife accused him of making unwanted advances, but another former adviser told New York Times reporter Maggie Haberman the real reason he fell out of favor.
"A former Trump adviser makes the point that Lewandowski has been accused of a wide range of this kind of behavior for years [but] what moved Trump was that it was hard for Lewandowski to raise money now, and that Trump is focused on advisers appearing to make [money] off access to him," Haberman tweeted.
"Key is anyone saying they 'control' Trump or his orbit," she added. "While there are a number of people who believe that to be true about themselves, when it gets said aloud, it provokes a reaction."
Lewandowski had allegedly attempted to intimidate his victim by claiming that he had control over Trump's inner circle and had the power to determine the fate of anyone inside the former president's orbit. "Lewandowski said no candidate receives the president's endorsement without [his] approval," Politico reported.
