Couple arrested for 'worst case of child abuse' after nurses found maggots in daughter's genitalia

Two people were arrested on Saturday afternoon on child abuse charges in Owasso, Oklahoma in what nurses called the "worst case of child abuse" they had seen, KATV reports.

The 24-year-olds, Kevin Fowler and Aislyn Miller were arrested after nurses at Urgent Care Owasso called police to report a case of child abuse. Two children were transported to the urgent care center on Friday; a nurse reported that a maggot crawled out of one of the children's "genital area." The same child had a "severe diaper rash, bed sores and feces in her ear."

The nurse also told police that the child was unhealthy and looked like a skeleton. The other child exhibited many of the same issues including a diaper rash, bed sores, and was also very skinny. The child also had a hair wrapped around her finger that had led to infection.

Fowler and Miller were taken into a separate room for questioning after officers spoke with hospital staff. They told police that they were "new parents" with little experience caring for babies.

Both parents acknowledged that they were aware of some of the children's conditions, but Miller told the police the couple did not have insurance and was unable to pay the medical expenses for a checkup. The infants had also reportedly not been into the doctor for a checkup since they were born.

The couple is presently being held at Tulsa County Jail on a $50,000 bond.
