A government shutdown could literally be a mess for House Speaker John Boehner (R-OH).
Thousands of the Washington, D.C. residents who will be without trash service if the government shuts its doors are promising to take their garbage to the Speaker's residence.
A Facebook page is inviting people to join together Saturday morning and march to Boehner's D.C. home.
"Speaker John Boehner is ready to shut down the government, including DC city services like trash collection," the page explained.
"Well, if he won't allow us to use OUR TAX DOLLARS to pick it up, maybe we should just BRING IT TO HIM."
"If the Federal Government shuts down Washington DC will not be able to spend money on non-essential services," the group continued. "Fortunately our Mayor can exempt our police, fire fighters and teachers but most of the rest of our local government will shut down because members of Congress won't give us autonomy to budget and spend our own money."
"We are protesting at Speaker Boehner's house because he has the power to put bills on the floor of the House he controls to fix this. The House of Representatives has direct oversight of Washington, DC, not the Senate or President. Boehner has the power to stand behind his insistence that Government should stay out of people's lives by getting his government out of ours."
So far, there are almost 7,000 people planning to take part in the event.
Nolan Treadway, the political and logistics director for the liberal bloggers’ network Netroots Nation, helped plan the action at the suggestion of former Democratic National Committee employee Jonah Goodman.
"We’re upset that as D.C. residents we’re getting caught in the middle of this budget battle and the wrangling between the two arms of Congress," Treadway told The Wall Street Journal.
"This a great opportunity for us, as the disenfranchised residents, to point out the taxation without representation that we live with."
