Dallas teenager found after being mistakenly deported to Colombia

In a truly incredible story, a Dallas woman has located her 15-year-old granddaughter after she was mistakenly deported to the country of Colombia.

According to WFAA-TV, Lorene Turner had been searching for her granddaughter Jakadrien since 2010 before finding her on Facebook. The adolescent was 14 when she ran away from home, upset over the death of her grandfather and her parents' divorce.

Jakadrien ended up being arrested for theft in Houston, and gave police a fake name. Authorities matched the name with a 22-year-old illegal immigrant from Colombia, leading to them contacting the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE).

The ICE deported the girl in April 2011 despite not confirming her identify. The Colombian government released her and provided her a work card.

When an address was provided on Jakadrien's whereabouts, U.S. embassy officials thought police would pick her up, but government officials said that she had been jailed and would not be released.

"I feel like she will come home," Turner said emotionally. "I just need help and prayer.”

ICE Director of Public Affairs Brian Hale said that the agency is closely monitoring the situation.

"ICE takes these allegations very seriously," he said. "At the direction of [the Department of Homeland Security], ICE is fully and immediately investigating this matter in order to expeditiously determine the facts of this case."

Jakadrien is African-American, and at the time of her deportation could not speak Spanish.
