Gay activist and sex columnist Dan Savage told Mother Jones in a recent interview that he was "freaked out" by the rise of former Pennsylvania Sen. Rick Santorum.
National polls have found the staunch social conservative surging ahead of longtime frontrunner Mitt Romney. In early February, he came in first in the Missouri Republican primary and the Minnesota and Colorado caucuses.
"I am freaking out," Savage told Mother Jones. "You might be scared, but I'm the one who's going to be audited every year!"
"On the one hand, I just feel like because of the comments he's made about birth control that he just cannot get elected, so part of me thinks 'God, I hope he's the nominee,'" he continued. "And then part of me thinks that if he's the nominee and the economy tanks, then somehow he'll wind up in the White House. I was one of those people that had hoped for McCain when he ran for the nomination—and I don't want to whistle past that graveyard again."
Savage is the man responsible for Santorum’s “Google problem.”
Enter his name into a Google search and one of the top pages is a reference to a sexual neologism coined as a tribute to his past denunciations of homosexuality. Spreadingsantorum.com defines “santorum” as “the frothy mix of lube and fecal matter that is sometimes the byproduct of anal sex. 2. Senator Rick Santorum.”
