Daniel Radcliffe: It is 'pretty undeniable' that Hollywood is racist

If you think that Hollywood is a progressive wonderland of racial tolerance, Harry Potter star Daniel Radcliffe has some bad news for you.

In an interview with the BBC's Victoria Derbyshire, Radcliffe is asked if he believes that Hollywood still has problems with racism, and he replies that it's impossible to say otherwise.

"I think it's pretty undeniable," Radcliffe said. "We like to think of ourselves as being a very, very progressive industry, but we have been lagging behind in all kinds of areas that have been very well documented."

In particular, Radcliffe pointed to complaints over the past year that Oscar nominees have been so predominantly white, even as the Academy has ignored first-rate performances by people of color. Radcliffe, who is now on the panel that chooses Oscar winners, expressed hope that he would be able to make a change with his vote.

Additionally, Radcliffe expressed concerns for gay actors who have been reluctant to come out of the closet because "I suppose then people just want to cast you as gay."
